Explore ceramics as structure and skin on this eight-week course led by artist Francisco Zhan
Discover the relationship between form and surface in an immersive eight-week handbuilding course at SET Ceramics, a vibrant new community studio near Fenchurch Street. Led by Sculptor and artist Francisco Zhan, this intimate course (maximum 6 participants) approaches clay as both structure and skin.
You will build a strong foundation in core techniques - including pinching, coiling, slab building, and traditional Japanese kurinuki (block carving) - while experimenting with expressive surface treatments like marbling, inlay, sgraffito, and glazing.
Sessions blend expert demonstrations with dedicated open-studio time, allowing you to work at your own pace and develop a personal project. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced maker looking to push your creative boundaries, you will leave with a unique collection of finished ceramic pieces and the confidence to realise your own ideas.
Time: Monday 6 July to 24 August 7.30–10pm weekly.
Tickets: You can reserve your spot in advance online.
