The Bluestockings – A Sunday Talk at Dr Johnson’s House

Check availability

Explore how the Bluestockings challenged ideas about women’s education and helped create new opportunities for women to participate in literary life and work

Seen by many as the first women’s movement, the Bluestocking Society was a circle of eighteenth-century women, formed through a shared passion for literature, learning and intellectual conversation.

The salon-style meetings were led by critic and writer Elizabeth Montagu, and joined by members such as translator Elizabeth Carter and novelist Frances Burney..

Time: Sunday 30 August 2pm

Tickets: This talk is free with your admission ticket, which you can buy on the day or in advance.
