Guildhall Art Gallery is located in the heart of the City of London and is home to the City of London Corporation's art collection.

Established in the late 19th century as a collection of art treasures worthy of the capital city, Guildhall Art Gallery soon lived up to this ambition, with exhibitions that featured world famous masterpieces and works by some great artists. The wide-ranging collection of 4,500 works, including over 1,300 oil paintings, dates from 1670 to the present day. Particularly strong in Victorian material, with a number of choice Pre-Raphaelite items, the collection also houses important ceremonial and topographical paintings.

Admission free

Admission to Guildhall Art Gallery and London's Roman Amphitheatre is free, but we recommend that you book a general admission ticket to visit any of the two (or both). Save time on arrival by booking in advance or just walk-in on the day.

Closures

Tuesday 23 June - Guildhall Art Gallery and London’s Roman Amphitheatre will be closed to the public all day. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

You can explore Guildhall Art Gallery by joining one of our free guided tours or by using Smartify.

As part of Guildhall Art Gallery’s commitment to making art accessible to all ages, we offer a regular programme of family activities. Visitors with young children are encouraged to join our family mailing list to stay informed about upcoming events. Visitors without children may prefer to visit on days when family activities are not scheduled.

Free guided tours

Free introductory tours, conducted by Guildhall Art Gallery’s team of City Guides, are available every day, from Tuesday to Sunday, at 12:15pm and 1:15pm and last 30-45 minutes. No booking is required. These tours are for individual visits (not for groups). Please note that tours will not take place on 23 May, 27 May, or 28 October due to enhanced family programming on those days.

If you wish to book a private group tour of Guildhall Art Gallery, please get in touch with the Gallery team, specifying your preferred date/time and party size.

Smartify

Lockers

Lockers are provided during opening hours for a refundable £1 deposit (maximum dimensions: 32 x 53 x 42cm). The cloakroom is unattended other than during special events, but is freely available for visitors to store personal items. The City of London Corporation takes no responsibility for any items left.

We aim to make access to the paintings enjoyable and welcoming to the widest possible public. The floor plans of the Gallery and Amphitheatre and other information on how we welcome visitors with access needs can be downloaded below.
